Deacon, for sure you need extensive training and education to administer the MBTI. It also takes a lot of study to understand for yourself when the MBTI is administered to you.

Another way of understanding the difference is to compare Boxing to Mixed Martial Arts. Boxing only uses the arms and hits must be above the belt, while MMA is Boxing plus other fighting skills. When watching boxing you know the only way to win is by points or KO.

In MMA, you can win by points, KO, choke holds, arm bars. It is more complex because there are more variables.

Same goes for MBTI, there are more variables and it takes more training to understand how all the variables interact, even if your just observing.

Great explanation Chris! I've only completed the DiSC myself and it's been really helpful. I've been thinking I should do the MBTI to add to my understanding as well though.

With the DiSC I go back to the report monthly to refresh my memory of what I learned about myself. I've never had a professional go through the results with me. Would I be able to do the same thing with the MBTI? You mentioned you need a college level course to understand it, but I wasn't sure if you meant 'administer and help others with it' or 'interpret your own results.'

Hey Chris, great points! I've been working on an add'l certification myself at work, & have just started a monthly specialty referral clinic which has been a lot of fun for me, as it's different & new, & is definitely "value-added" career-wise. (We frequently buy prewashed, chopped lettuce ourselves--love the analogy.)

Yes Jason I think those three are common for those of us with Ideation. We can be overcome with the flood of ideas, not know which is the best to start and fear we will never do anything. At least that is how it is for me. Pro Tip: Pair yourself with someone who scores high in Context and Deliberative. Looking forward to talking to you soon.

#1, #8, #13. Wow. I relate 100%. Pretty scary. I love to start things, hate to finish them. (it's the 80% drudgery and non-creative part that follows the fun part that gets to me. )
My fear of "doing nothing" is a relatively recent fear. It has only started in the past 4 or 5 years. I was pretty happy going along with the flow, but then had some crazy 'work' stuff and had to re-evaluate. "Is this where I wanted to be"? HELL NO! So now what? :)

I scored high on Ideation and Command on Strengthsfinder, surprised?

When I was 12, and after I had received my official Red Cross Babysitting Certification, I created an index card advertisement on my Commodore 64 which I hand delivered to the owner of a body shop on the corner of my street. I had seen 2 kids playing in the yard behind the shop and thought I could snag some babysitting jobs. It worked! They hired me and I babysat for them for five years or more.
